Lamar's 14-run outburst, including Brad Picha's four RBI performance, in the first inning provided the Cardinals all the runs in they needed to sweep the Northwestern State baseball team with a 18-4 win in seven innings Sunday afternoon in Southland Conference action.

Picha doubled to left field for the Cardinals (30-11, 9-6 SLC), who batted around in the inning twice, and scored Jude Vidrine. He scored after V.J. Bunner hit the first of three LU home runs to left center field.

Eight batters and two Demon (11-30, 2-13 SLC) pitchers later, Picha hit a three-run shot over the right field wall that scored Darian Johnson and Vidrine. Garret Autrey hit the final home run in the inning that scored Seth Dornak.

Every batter in the Lamar lineup had a hit in the first inning, and all but Dornak had at least one RBI.

Sam Bumpers led off the inning with a triple to left center field and scored when Vidrine doubled to left field. After the Picha double Bunner homer, Demon starting pitcher Joey Parrack (0-6) was pulled for Andrew Adams with only one out.

Dornak singled and Autrey walked before Aaron Olivas and Zach Luevanos both singled to round out the first time through the Lamar lineup. Cameron Brewer came in for Adams, and Bumpers doubled to right field to score Olivas.

Vidrine walked and Johnson hit a two-run single that scored Bumpers and Luvanos before Picha's three-run homer. Dornak reached on an error by Matt Baca and advanced to second before Autrey hit his homer.

The Demons put together two, two-run innings when they scored in the first and third innings.

Toby Cornejo, who drew a leadoff walk, scored when Cort Brinson doubled to left center. Todd Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to score Brinson from third base two batters after Nick Purdy singled to center field.

In the third inning, Will Watson reached on a one-out single up the middle, and advanced to second and third base on back-to-back walks to Zack Costa and Nick Purdy. Wallace drew a bases-loaded four-pitch walk. Matt Farmer drove in Costa on single up the middle.

The Cardinals added four more in the fifth inning that started off with an error by Matt Burns that allowed Andrew Dewey to reach base. He scored after Dornak and Autrey both singled. Dornak scored on a Luevanos single up the middle, and Autrey scored after A.J. Funk hit Bumpers with a pitch with the bases loaded.

Six Cardinals, including Picha, had two or more runs batted in. Autrey had three, Bumpers, Vidrine, Johnson, Bunner, and Luevanos all had two.

David Carver started for the Cardinals and was pulled after allowing two runs without and out. Jerin Spikes (1-1) got the win with two innings pitched and one hit.

Brewer pitched 3.2 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks. Logan Shaftner came in in the fourth inning and allowed four runs on three hits. Funk was the final pitcher for NSU and worked three innings and gave up only one hit.

Watson was two-of-three with a run scored. Todd Wallace was no hits in two at-bats, but collected two RBI.

Northwestern State will not play a midweek game before face Sam Houston, starting Saturday at 2 p.m. in Brown-Stroud Field.
