Bidding to become only the second three-time All-America football performer at Northwestern, Rose is among 40 top linebackers included on the CFPA watchlist. Heading the list are a couple of returning All-Americans, Matt Evans of New Hampshire and Keith Pough from Howard.
Rose is one of three Southland Conference players listed, along with Ricky Irvin of Southeastern Louisiana and Ryan Epperson of Stephen F. Austin. He and Irvin are the only Louisiana players included.
Last year, Rose (5-11, 230) was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award presented to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. He has made 220 tackles in his two seasons as a starting middle linebacker for the Demons.
He was an Associated Press All-American in 2011 after winning Sports Network and Phil Steele All-America honors as a sophomore in 2010, when he stacked up 138 tackles.
Gary Reasons, who won All-America honors as a linebacker in 1981-83 for the Demons, is the only three-time All-America football star at NSU. He was also the first to win All-America honors in three seasons in the FCS (then Division I-AA) ranks, and is in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Rose and Reasons are among nine Demon greats who have won All-America accolades in at least two seasons, the last being defensive tackle Tory Collins in 2005-06. Linebacker Jamaal Johnson, a star in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, won two straight honors in 2003-04.
