Demons basketball player earns POW

Northwestern State forward DeQuan Hicks has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Hicks averaged 18.1 points and 8.3 rebounds in leading the Demons to two wins in three games last week. He scored 24 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds in a 73-64 win at Sam Houston last Monday. In an 80-74 loss at Oral Roberts on Thursday, he scored 18 points and grabbed four rebounds before closing the week with 10 points and eight rebounds in a 100-88 win at Central Arkansas. The junior from Racine, Wis. (Parks H.S.), made 20 of 37 shots from the floor (54.5 percent) and connected on 12 of 20 free throws (60.0 percent) in just 17.7 minutes per game. Hicks leads Northwestern with 14.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. The Demons are 10-6 overall and 3-1 in Southland play.
