The Lady Demons (11-7 overall, 6-3 SLC) are the fourth seed in the upcoming SLC Tournament, which is set to begin on Friday at 11 a.m. in Beaumont, Texas. NSU will match up against No. 5 Stephen F. Austin (10-12, 5-4) in the quarterfinals at 2 o’clock.
Konop, a junior and Larina, a sophomore, gave the Lady Demons the No. 1 and 2 spots on the All-Southland singles first team. Larina also teamed up with senior captain Nedorostova to claim the No. 1 doubles spot while Konop and freshman Krutova took the second doubles position.
Konop leads the team in singles action with an overall record of 14-4, predominately at the No. 1 position, and is 7-2 against SLC opponents. She and Krutova went 14-4 on the season and turned in a perfect 9-0 record in conference doubles play to earn the title of conference champions at the No. 2 spot.
Larina went 13-5 overall in singles and dropped just one match in league play to finish 8-1 and become the conference champion at the No. 2 position. Larina and Nedorostova compiled an impressive 15-3 doubles record overall and are regular season champions at the No. 1 spot with a 7-2 record.
Nedorostova cemented her place in the NSU record books this season as she became the winningest doubles player in program history. The Brno, Czech Republic native has amassed 69 doubles wins and just 10 losses throughout her career at NSU, surpassing former Lady Demon Bianca Schulz’s record of 67-21.
SFA (10-12, 5-4) ended the season on a two-match losing streak, dropping matches against Lamar, 7-0, and Central Arkansas, 6-1.
NSU narrowly defeated the Ladyjacks 4-3 in their last meeting on March 29.
“We feel well prepared for the SLC Tournament,” said Lady Demon head coach Patric DuBois. “We plan to go at each team match in this tournament as we always do, with a lot of focus, intensity and effort.
“We have a very tough match in the opening round against SFA. They are the defending champions until someone takes it away and they are a talented, well-coached team. We played well against them earlier this season and are prepared to do so again on Friday.”
Konop paired up with Krutova, a freshman, in doubles competition to win the regular-season title at the No. 2 position after compiling a perfect 9-0 record in the SLC. The duo went 14-4 on the season, the second-best for NSU.
If the Lady Demons defeat SFA they will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the No. 1 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 8 Central Arkansas match. The semifinals match is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
