“Losing Brittany for this weekend is not a small loss,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “Brittany has had a great season and has been a large factor in our success so far.”
NSU physicians confirmed that Virgoe suffered a fracture to her right foot after running awkwardly over first base in an effort to beat out a grounder to second in the fourth inning.
Though she suffered the injury, the Anaheim, Calif. native finished the game at third.
Virgoe kick-started NSU’s scoring when she rocked a homer over the left field fence in the top of the second, giving the Lady Demons fuel to come away with the program’s fourth conference tournament title.
The sophomore hit .335, hit eight home runs and drove in 34 runs this season.
