The Northwestern State volleyball team led all teams in selections to the 2013 All-Southland Conference preseason teams, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Selections include first team honorees Stacey DiFrancesco and Keelie Arneson while Mackenzie Neely and Caiti O’Connell garner second team accolades.

“We’re really happy for all four players and for the recognition they have received,” said co-head coach Hugh Hernesman. “All four players are very deserving and have worked hard to contribute to our overall team success.”

DiFrancesco led the Lady Demons in kills (385) and aces (42) while also recording 14 double-doubles last season. Her season kills post ranks fifth in the NSU single-season ledger and her 1,244 attempts stand at second.

Arneson finished second in the conference in digs at 5.00 per set. The Tomball, Texas, native broke her own single-season digs record after racking up 618 in 2012 after collecting 539 in the 2011 season.

Arneson picked up Southland Defensive Player of the Week for the weeks of Sept. 10 and Sept. 24 as well.

DiFrancesco and Arneson earned the program’s first two spots of the SLC first team in 2012 after leading the team to a 20-13 overall record, the best in program history.

The Lady Demons finished 2012 tied for third with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

From Dripping Springs, Texas, Neely recorded 319 kills, 72 blocks and 35 aces on the right side.

O’Connell proved to be a force on the outside as she finished seventh in the league in kills per set (3.04) and second in team kills with 337.

The Lady Demons open the 2013 season on Aug. 30 at the Arkansas Invitational as they take on the host Razorbacks at 11:00 a.m. at Barnhill Arena. NSU opens home competition of Sept. 17 as they host Southern Mississippi at 7:00 p.m. at Prather Coliseum.
