Title: Assistant Professor of English and Director of First-Year Writing
Education: Ph.D. in English from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, M.A. in English from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and B.A. in English and History from Virginia Tech
Years at NSU: 12
Job Description: I teach writing and rhetoric in the Department of Language and Communication at every level from freshman English to graduate courses, and I supervise the teaching of our first-year writing sequence.
Why I Like Working at NSU: First, I love the work I do at NSU. I get to teach classes to motivated students about subjects (critical reading and writing) that I feel are important not only to their own lives but to our democratic society as a whole, and I get to research within my areas of interest (teaching of writing, computers and writing, the history of rhetoric and writing, and American literature) so that my work is always about my passion for learning and teaching. Second, I love the people I work with at NSU. I feel very lucky to work alongside very talented people (colleagues, staff, and supervisors), who encourage me in all that I do. Third, I love that NSU in is Natchitoches. While I am originally from Virginia, Natchitoches has become my family’s home, and we are grateful for the friends and opportunities we have here at NSU and in the community.
