Title: Horticultural superintendent
Years at NSU: Just since end of April 2013
Job description: As an ornamental horticulturist, I take care of all the plants and materials and help schedule maintenance, spraying, etc. We are currently doing all the cleanup on plant material, plant maintenance and plant care. We are the second largest campus in the state and we care for 700 acres. That’s a lot of mowing.
Why I like working at Northwestern State: I like the challenges that I’ve been presented. I had a landscape company in St. Simon’s Island, but I grew up on a large plantation south of Alexandria and my family has been agriculture forever. From both my grandmothers I attribute to having inherited some fine things. One was an avid gardener and had a greenhouse, a big cut flower garden and a big vegetable garden. The other was an artist and I draw a lot, structures, plants, water and landscapes. Plus my mother went to NSU in the 1940s and I remember going to the state fair as a teenager to see Northwestern State play Louisiana Tech in what is now Independence Stadium.
