Title: Associate Professor of Communication
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Speech, Northwestern State College
Masters in Religious Education, Texas Christian University
Doctorate in Speech Communication, Louisiana State University
Years at NSU: 21
Job description: I am a member of the Department of Language and Communication and direct the communication program. Among my duties I am the lead professor in courses in rhetoric, director of the communication lab staff, a faculty advisor to communication students and assist with department recruiting and retention efforts for NSU.
Why I like working at Northwestern State: NSU is my undergraduate alma mater to which I had the privilege to return as professor of military science. I ended my military career and moved across campus to join the Department of Language and Communication and found it much like my military experience. The department was filled with individuals who genuinely care for each other. Surrounded by such a collegial group, the rewards of teaching an ever improving body of students have been too numerous to count. I enjoy the openness of the conversations with both peers and students; the constant demand to apply knowledge to strengthen community and economic growth and finally the joy of staying in touch with students who have been gone and return to recall some nugget of knowledge shared to which they attribute their success. In sum, I am where I belong, with people I enjoy and doing what I love.
