The Kiwanis Club of Natchitoches met Thursday May 2 at the Northwestern State University Recreational Complex. The l guest speaker was Lowell Hubbard, president of the Louisiana Loggers Council. Hubbard is a lifelong resident of Winn Parish and a third generation forester. He presented the club with information about the current state of the forestry industry in Louisiana and the effects it has on the economy. M.R. Weaver Elementary hosted its Spring Carnival on April 18. The students had a variety of games to play. Some of those games were plinko, duck pond, cupcake walk, ring toss, basket ball toss, and bingo. Following many of the activities was the highlight of the evening “pie in the face.” Students voted on their favorite candidate to have a pie thrown in their face at the conclusion of the contest. Coach Jeff Rachal, was chosen as the winner. At left is principal Ray Gandy.
