Former Northwestern State University faculty members Dr. Stan Chadick and Dr. Edward W. Graham will be named Professors Emeritus during a reception from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. The event honoring the two retired educators will take place in the Natchitoches Room of Russell Hall.

Dr. Chadick joined the faculty at Northwestern State in 1969 and retired as a professor of mathematics in 2005. He was the first director of the Louisiana Scholar’s College from 1986-87 and was the first curriculum coordinator for the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts from 1983-85.

Chadick was involved with Louisiana System Initiatives Program (LaSIP), a program to promote statewide student learning and achievement in math, science and language arts. Chadick was director of LaSIP grants for several academic years, authored materials for high school and college courses and was chair of the curriculum committee that created the framework for grades 5-8. Chadick received several professional honors and was selected to receive the President’s Distinguished Service Award in 2005.

After his retirement, Dr. Chadick and his wife Kathleen, with whom he worked as a team throughout his career, directed a math-science partnership program for fourth through eighth math teachers in Sabine and Vernon parishes. Dr. and Mrs. Chadick also served as consultants with McGraw-Hill, making tests for several states in the U.S. In addition, Dr. Chadick worked with Louisiana State University to bring advanced placement courses to rural schools.

Graham joined the Northwestern State faculty as chairman of the Department of Chemistry and Physics
