Title: Coordinator RN to BSN Program
Education: B.S. Graceland College
M.S.N. Northwestern State University
Years at NSU: 23
Job description: I begancoordinating, advising, and teaching in the RN to BSN program this past summer after teaching in the generic BSN program since 1989. I teach classes totally online, so I provide my students motivation to continue in the RN to BSN curriculum. I establish rapport with online students by focusing on adult learner needs, such as to feel respected and be given prompt feedback. I frequently remind students that juggling school (which is teacher guided, but requires a great deal of self-motivation) with work and family obligations can be difficult. I look forward to meeting continued challenges in my teachingcareer and wonder what changes I will encounter in education in the next few years
Why I like working at Northwestern State: I like working at Northwestern State primarily because of the student-friendly atmosphere and collegialityamong faculty on all campuses. This summer and fall while learning my new role I have interacted with many faculty and staff that I had never met. Without exception everyone I encountered has been very patient and understanding with my many questions. Also, NSU provides many opportunities for innovation and professional growth. For example, working here has provided me the opportunity to learn and adapt new educational technologies to meet student learning needs.
