The latest additions to the signing class are outfielder Micayla Sorosiak from Sugarland, Texas-Kempner High School; pitcher Shelby Sells, from flugerville, Texas; and outfielder Amanda Fulkerson of Cypress, Texas-Cy-Fair High School.
“This class is going to have a chance to make an immediate impact to our program,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “We wanted to bring in quality people along with talented softball players.”
Sorosiak led the Lady Cougars in all offensive categories with 38 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs, 22 RBI, a .576 batting average and .894 slugging percentage for the 2012 season.
In 2012, Sorosiak’s batting average and slugging percentage were the best in the district. She was named team MVP, and earned All-Greater Houston first-team honors.
Sorosiak has earned first-team All-District honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. During her sophomore season, she notched a grand slam to clinch a district playoff spot, which later led to Kempner’s first-ever district championship.
Sorosiak was named Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, and won her first team MVP award.
Sells was named Offensive Player of the Year after the 2012 season, Defensive Player of the Year in 2011, and led the Panthers to back-to-back district championships in 2010 and 2011.
Sells was named to the All-District first-team, as well as All-District first-team All-Academic at the conclusion on the 2012 season. She also received All-District second-team honors in 2012.
Fulkerson led the Bobcats to three back-to-back district championships, was named All-District first-team in 2011 and 2012, and received All-District second-team honors as a freshman in 2010.
As a sophomore, Fulkerson was named to the All-State team, All-District All-Academic team and the 2011 All-Sun team.
Fulkerson has been named to the All-District All-Academic team for the past three years.
“We wanted to focus on pitching, and we were able to land some very experienced and talented kids,” said Pickett. “We were looking for position players that will compete for starting spots immediately, and we feel like we’ve done that. I can't wait to get this class here with our current squad; they have the experience now to help us take another big step forward with our program.”
