The Demons have over 50 applicants for the job and hope to have a new coach as early as next week, but will have one no later than Christmas.
The program is coming off a 4-7 season under former coach Bradley Dale Peveto and believes the program can be turned around in a hurry.
Burke announced on Nov 17. that NSU would not renew Peveto’s contract “We have to go through an EEO hiring process that has a timeline. Also we are looking for someone who can sustain the good things Peveto brought to the program such as community relations, fund raisers and an upward trend for winning.”
Burke feels like the candidates for the coaching job must have some success and head-coaching experience. He says whoever the coach is cant have a 0-11 season.
”It is always the AD’s fault when a new or current coach does not work out. That is part of the business and someone has to take the blame.”
Several candidates are excited about possibly coaching NSU football, he says, “People are interested in the job and feel like it’s a great job and a great place to be at. We believe our community must be involved more and whoever the coach is, we expect them to continue this tradition.”
