The events will include a Demon basketball alumni reunion, introduction of all-time teams in the Legends Era (1912-13 to 1975-76) and the Division I Era (1976-77 to the present season), and an evening dinner and ceremony including a video reviewing the century of tradition in the program.
The dinner and ceremony will be open to the public at a nominal charge. Ticket information will be announced soon and purchases will be available online through the NSUDemons.com website.
The basketball doubleheader begins with a 1 p.m. women's game followed at approximately 3 by the men's contest as Northwestern entertains conference foe Central Arkansas.
The March 9 events were initially targeted for Jan. 19, but have been moved back to accommodate basketball alumni traveling in for the celebration.
“We've made a point of embracing the great tradition in this program at Northwestern State University, and we are excited about making this day the special celebration it should be,” said 14th-year Demons head coach Mike McConathy, whose father and uncles rank among the better players in school history, and whose two sons each played for him in the past few years. “My dad and uncles played for Coach Prather, who had more wins than any coach in the country at any level when he retired.
“We enjoy our basketball reunions each season and this one will be without a doubt the most memorable ever,” he said. “It's for anybody who has participated in or cheered for the Demons and for anyone who appreciates tradition and the joy of competition.”
