UCA (11-4, 4-0 SLC) finished the game shooting 50 percent (22-44) from the field including a perfect 7-7 from Courtney Duever who scored 19 points.
NSU (5-10, 1-4 SLC) wrapped up its road trip losing all three. During the road swing, NSU played three of the top four teams in Sam Houston, Oral Roberts, and UCA who had a combined record of 4-1 in conference at the time of the game.
“We did a good job defensively. I felt like at times we were playing our pace until about the four-minute mark in the first half,” said first-year co-head coach Brooke Stoehr. “The game was in reach and I really felt like we shot ourselves in the foot with 14 first half turnovers that gave them 11 points.”
UCA had a two-point lead with 4:15 to play in the first before the Sugar Bears went on an 11-point run to end the half. The Lady Demons had four turnovers, two from offensive fouls, in that four-minute span.
“They’re a veteran team, but we have to be better as far as valuing the basketball,” said Stoehr. “It’s all a part of that process of growing up, maturing, and establishing a level of consistency.”
Jasmine Bradley led NSU in both scoring with 10 points and rebounds with seven. Jasmine Upchurch finished with nine points, Keisha Lee had seven, and Janelle Perez finished with six.
After Herbert and Duever for UCA, Desiree Rogers scored nine. Herbert led the team with eight rebounds.
NSU shot 40 percent (16-40) from the field including 50 pecent (4-8) behind the 3-point line. UCA led in rebounds with 28 to NSU’s 23.
The Sugar Bears scored 26 points in the paint, NSU had 12. UCA outscored NSU 20-9 in points off of turnovers.
