The Northwestern State volleyball team enjoyed another successful Demon Digfest at the annual Fall sand volleyball tournament Saturday and Sunday at Point Place Marina.

“It’s pretty fun,” Block Party team member Alan Smith said. “In North Louisiana, there’s not a lot of volleyball, so if we hear about anything---especially supporting colleges---we are willing to make the drive.”

The Block Party, consisting of three men and one woman, defeated team Jacob Carter for the crown.

“It feels pretty good,” Smith said. “We also won in the spring, so we felt like coming back trying to defend the title. But either way, it’s a fun event. We had fun today.”

Co-head coaches Hugh and Stephanie Hernesman would like to thank Legacy Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram as the corporate sponsor, and to the staff at Point Place Marina.

“We give a big thank you to the staff at Point Place Marina for all of their hard work and dedication to this event over the years,” said Hugh Hernesman.

“We are also grateful to Legacy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for being our corporate sponsor. We look forward to continuing and growing our partnership with them in the future.”

The tournament schedule was full with 12 teams participating.

“Thank you, also, to Sonic for donating all of the food to help make this a great event,” said Hernesman.

The team would also like to thank the sponsors and donors of the event: Rodney Harrington, Gayla Neely/Iron Duke, ATX Mafia, the Demon Bookstore, Sonic, Dr. Ron McBride, Snowie Mountain, William Luster M.D., French Market Express, Davina McClain, Jack Brittain and Natchitoches Rents.

The Lady Demons plan to host a Spring Demon Digfest sometime in April.
