Stephen F. Austin, the defending Southland Conference regular-season and tournament soccer champion, places six student-athletes on the 2013 preseason all-conference teams, including four on the first team, the league office announced Tuesday.

The Ladyjacks return nine starters to a team that set a school-record with wins in a single season after posting a 17-4-0 overall record with a perfect 8-0-0 mark in conference play last season. Earning first-team honors for Stephen F. Austin are senior Lacey Lee and juniors Chelsea Raymond, Zuri Prince and Megan Dunnigan.

Lee and Dunnigan will headline the SFA defense that was one of the toughest in the country last season. Lee, a goalkeeper from Bedford, Texas, ranked second in the nation in goals-against average (0.42) and fourth in save percentage (.887) while notching 10 shutouts in the net last year. Dunnigan, a defender from Round Rock, Texas, anchors the SFA defense that allowed only 13 goals on the season and ranked 13th nationally with a 0.624 goal-against average, which included 13 shutouts.

Leading the Ladyjacks’ offensive attack this season are Raymond and Prince. Raymond, a forward from Irving, Texas, led SFA in total points (29) last season with a team-high 13 goals and three assists. Prince, the 2012 conference tournament most valuable player, recorded 19 points last year with seven goals and five assists. The junior forward also ranked tied for 17th in the nation with five game-winning goals.

SFA also places two student-athletes on the second team with senior midfielder Brenda Salazar and sophomore defender Chantal Curry.

Oral Roberts, which places five student-athletes on the preseason all-conference teams, including two members on the first team, returns seven starters to a team that finished 12-7-2 a season ago and fourth in the league with a 5-3-0 record. On the first team for ORU are senior Jennifer Abernathy and junior Megan Giles. Abernathy, a midfielder from Broken Arrow, Okla., led the Golden Eagles in shots (58) last season while ranking second in league play in assists (four). Giles returns to the Golden Eagles as the team’s assist leader from last season. The forward from Tulsa, Okla., dished out seven assists last season to go along with four goals to help ORU advance to the semifinals in its first Southland Conference tournament.

Rounding out ORU’s all-conference selections are a trio of second-team honorees. Senior midfielder Lexie Salas and sophomore forward Kayla Keller lead the charge on the offensive end while junior goalkeeper Helen Erb gets the nod for her defensive efforts in the net.

After finishing last season with a 6-2-0 conference mark and reaching the championship match of the conference tournament, Lamar returns nine starters, four of which earn all-conference accolades. The Lady Cardinals place two players on the first team, headlined by junior Kristin Bos. The midfielder from Valencia, Calif., netted 11 goals last season while dishing out four assists for 26 points to help pace Lamar’s offense. Also earning first-team honors is defender Amber Thornhill, a senior from Katy, Texas. Thornhill anchors the Lady Cardinals’ defense that recorded seven of its 11 wins via shutout. Earning second-team honors for Lamar are a couple of forwards with junior Kimmy Albeno and sophomore Jannet Hernandez.

Southeastern Louisiana is coming off a third-place conference finish with a 5-2-1 league record and a 12-7-1 overall mark and places three student-athletes on the preseason teams with senior Shanyce Shaw earning first-team recognition. Shaw, a defender from Ajax, Ontario, recorded two assists last season and anchors the Lady Lions defense that gave up only 20 goals last season and blanked their opponent 10 times. Senior midfielder Kelsey Salcido and sophomore forward Kayla Vera each earn a spot on the second team for Southeastern.

Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas each have one all-conference selection both of whom earn first-team honors to complete the first team. Bearkat sophomore Katie Ferrara, a senior from Round Rock, Texas, led the Bearkats a season ago with four goals on only 17 shots for a team-high .235 shooting percentage. For the Bears, Adriana Lucar, a senior forward from Lima, Peru, looks to capitalize this season after ranking tied for 23rd nationally with 14 goals last season, helping her earn the conference newcomer of the year award.

Rounding out the all-conference teams is a pair of second-team selections with Houston Baptist sophomore Blake Martin and Northwestern State junior Jackie Strug. Martin, a defender from College Station, Texas, prepares to lead the Huskies into their first season in the Southland. Strug, a defender from Plano, Texas, will look to help the Lady Demons improve on last season after going 1-6-1 in league play.

Players named to the 2012 All-Southland Conference soccer teams who are returning for the 2013 season are automatic selections to the 2013 preseason all-conference soccer teams. The remaining positions are nominated and voted on by league head coaches.
