The Northwestern State University chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity received a Chapter Achievement Award for accomplishments in several categories. The award is one of the top honors presented to a chapter by Theta Chi Fraternity.

The Eta Omicron chapter at Northwestern State was recognized for excellence in the areas of scholarship, recruitment, community and philanthropy services, alumni relations, finances, ritual practices, internal cooperation, campus involvement, risk management practices and social programming.

Eta Omicron also received the Chapter Achievement Award in 2012.

Northwestern State student and member of Theta Chi Tylor Wilson, participated in the fraternity’s Initiative Academy at Indiana University.

The academy is an intensive training for chapter leaders around the nation to come together to share ideas, goals and become overall better leaders.

“I learned at the Initiative Academy is that there are several factors that make a person a great leader,” Wilson said. He is a sophomore biology major from Hornbeck.

“One has to be a to be an effective communicator, level-headed, and willing to follow others when the situation demands it.”

Wilson said the training taught him about his individual strengths and what he needed to build on to become a more effective leader.

“The most important lesson that I believe I took home from the academy is that you can't get people to join your cause because of what or how your doing, they join in your cause because of why your doing it,” Wilson said.
