The Northwestern State volleyball team competed in an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Prather Coliseum as the NSU White team defeated the NSU Black team, 2-1.

”We’ve been working on a lot of controlled plays in practice, so for the team to have a chance to play live was really good for them and they handled it well,” said co-head coach Hugh Hernesman. “Caiti and Keelie played really well today and will be strong forces for us this season.”

Sophomore Caiti O’Connell led both teams with 22 kills, followed by sophomore Amanda Kunz with 10.

Libero Keelie Arneson picked up 14 digs for the NSU White team as freshman Bailey Martin grabbed 11 for the NSU Black squad.

NSU White came away with scores of 25-23 and 25-18 as NSU Black picked up the third and final 25-17.

The Lady Demons begin the 2013 season at the Arkansas Invitational against the host Razorbacks at 11:00 a.m. at Barnhill Arena. NSU opens home competition on Sep. 17 against Southern Mississippi at 7:00 p.m. at Prather Coliseum.
