NATCHITOCHES – Dr. Dana Clawson has been named interim dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health at Northwestern State University. Her appointment is subject to approval by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System. Clawson replaces Dr. Norann Planchock, who retired Aug. 31 after 14 years as dean and 36 years on Northwestern State’s faculty. The university will launch a national search for a permanent dean.

Clawson is a Northwestern State alumna, earning an associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing. She received a Doctor of Nursing Science degree from Louisiana State University.

Clawson has been a member of Northwestern State’s nursing faculty since 2000. She has served as an associate professor of undergraduate and graduate nursing, coordinator of the women’s health nurse practitioner program and director of graduate studies and research in nursing.

As a member of the faculty, Clawson has contributed to professional journals and written for area publications on women’s health.

She has made numerous presentations to professional groups and been part of teams conducting published research. Clawson has obtained more than $425,000 in grants to assist the College of Nursing and Allied Health.

Clawson was a fulltime nurse for 10 years at Minden Medical Center, Willis-Knighton Medical Center and Christus Schumpert Health System.

She donates her time to work as a women’s health nurse practitioner for local non-profit agencies.
