After claiming the program’s fourth Southland Conference tournament championship and berth to the NCAA tournament in 2013, the Northwestern State softball team put together an intense 2014 season schedule with games set for five top-30 finishers, including four Southeastern Conference foes and three super-regional attendees, announced sixth year head coach Donald Pickett and his staff.

The Lady Demons garnered the program’s best finish in 10+ years and finished four spots higher than league-polls predicted with a 40-15 overall record, claiming second place in the Southland regular season with an 18-7 mark.

“We played some really strong teams last season, and did well against them, so we want to continue with that,” said Pickett. “Playing top-30 teams and schools that made it a significant distance in the NCAA tournament will certainly challenge the team and prepare us for our Southland Conference games.”

The 50-game schedule kicks-off at the Troy Subway Invitational in Troy, Ala., with contests against North Florida and the host Trojans on Feb. 17, No. 9 Alabama the following day and Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 9.

The Crimson Tide finished the season 45-15 overall, 13-11 in the SEC to earn a bid to the post-season, winning the Tuscaloosa Regional in three-straight games and later falling to Tennessee, two games to none in the supers.
