The NLN Academy of Nursing Education fosters excellence in nursing education by recognizing and capitalizing on the wisdom of outstanding individuals in and outside the profession who have contributed to nursing education in sustained and significant ways. Fellows in the NLN Academy of Nursing Education are individuals who have made enduring and substantial contributions to nursing education as teachers, mentors,scholars, public policy advocates, practice partners and administrators.
Shelton has been on faculty at Northwestern State since 1992 teaching in the Master of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs. She is coordinator for the adult/critical care concentration for the nurse educator and clinical nurse specialist role concentration.
Shelton’s research interests include success in nursing school, assessment and evaluation in nursing and simulation. She is a member of the Beta Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, Oncology Nursing Society, American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, and The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. She currently serves on the editorial board of Oncology Nurse Advisor and the review board for the Clinical Simulation in Nursing Journal.
